Поредицата разказва историята на Тереса – една 40-годишна омъжена жена с две деца. Дълги години тя живее в големия град със съпруга си и двете си деца. Принудена е да понася всекидневните побои, нанасяни от мъжа й. След поредното пребиване, Тереса решава, че това не може да продължава повече. Взима своите деца и бяга при чичо си Густаво във Вентделпла - малко градче, близо до Барселона. Първоначалното й намерение е да продаде къщата там и да се върне в Барселона, но впоследствие плановете й се променят.
