Βασισμένο στην ομώνυμη, επιδραστική νουβέλα του Joseph Heller, το Catch-22 αποτελεί την ιστορία του απαράμιλλου και επιδέξιου Yossarian, έναν Αμερικανό πιλότο βομβαρδιστικού στον Δεύτερο Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο, ο οποίος είναι έξαλλος επειδή χιλιάδες ανθρώπων που δεν έχει γνωρίσει ποτέ, προσπαθούν να τον σκοτώσουν. Όμως το πραγματικό του πρόβλημα δεν είναι ο εχθρός, αλλά ο δικός του στρατός που συνεχώς αυξάνει τον αριθμό των αποστολών που πρέπει οι πιλότοι να ολοκληρώσουν προτού αποστρατευτούν.
