El Dr. David Banner durante años ha estado investigando los casos de personas que en circunstancias de peligro hacen muestra de forma ocasional de una fuerza increíble. Cuando por fin llega a la conclusión de que se debe a los efectos de los rayos gamma de la luz solar decide sobre exponer su cuerpo a dicha radiación en laboratorio. Sin embargo David no sabe que otros trabajadores del laboratorio han elevado el calibre de radiación gamma de la maquina. Aunque David cree que el experimento ha sido fallido poco tardará en descubrir que se ha expuesto una radiación inmensa y lo que ello ha desencadenado.
