Louis Mandeville

Louis Mandeville

Born in 1910 to cab driver Joseph Louis Mandeville and Ethel Amy Caustin, Louis Mandeville worked as a dentist for most of his life. During WWII he was enlisted in the Army Dental Corps, rising to the rank of Captain before leaving due to disability in 1945. He then became a school dental officer in the Ealing area, retiring in the 1970s. Moreso than as a dentist, Mandeville is remembered for his scientific studies of fish, contributing to journals such as Water Life and The Aquarist. His wife Margery Elwin (married 1936) shared this interest; they collaborated on many articles and research projects together. Mandeville died in Bristol in 1983.
