King Amalric plans to teach Sultan Nureddin a harsh lesson. Ibelin's control is contested between Chatillon, backed by King Amalric, and Balian, supported by his people. Saladin, facing opposition from the Egyptian elite, demands the Caliph's wealth for the people's welfare, giving the Caliph two days. Saladin's stance on Kerak and Ibelin angers Sultan Nureddin.
