Alice is intrigued by the arrival of Giacomo, Claudio's brother with a wild and unconventional charm. He would like to know what has divided them in the past, but Claudio does not confide, even now that they are getting married. In any case, Alice's attention, rather than Claudio's reluctance, is focused on the Suprema: she appreciates its rigor and considers it a model of life totally different from what she had always imagined for herself.
